Case Study: Frankfurt University Hospital achieves high availability and hardware autonomy with DataCore Software

A DataCore Software Case Study

Preview of the Frankfurt University Hospital Case Study

Infrastructure in transition at Frankfurt University Hospital

Frankfurt University Hospital, a major German university clinic serving tens of thousands of patients annually, undertook large-scale digitisation of imaging, lab and patient data beginning in 2006 and needed highly available, high‑performance storage for PACS and other critical systems while retaining flexibility, investment reliability and hardware/vendor autonomy. To meet those requirements the hospital selected DataCore and its software‑defined storage solution (DataCore SANsymphony).

DataCore implemented SANsymphony to virtualise storage across two campus computer centres (connected by 32 Gbit FC), growing to about 1.2 PB of capacity with ~0.7 PB virtualised and using redundant storage servers per SAN. The DataCore deployment provides synchronous mirroring with auto‑failover/auto‑failback, flash caching and auto‑tiering, delivering excellent cross‑site availability, measurable performance gains, simpler non‑disruptive migrations, extended hardware life and reduced administration and costs.
