Case Study: Grundon achieves control of its data and faster, more reliable application performance with DataCore Software's SANsymphony

Grundon Waste Management reclaims control in managing their data, performance and application response times using DataCore’s software-defined storage

Grundon Waste Management Ltd., the UK’s largest privately owned waste-management company, was struggling to manage a rapidly growing (250 TB, ~20% YoY) and increasingly unstructured data estate across seven major data‑centre sites without impacting critical applications and VM performance. To regain control and stabilise their virtualised infrastructure, Grundon engaged DataCore (with partner Park Place Technologies) and implemented DataCore’s SANsymphony software‑defined storage.

DataCore deployed SANsymphony on HP servers with Dot Hill storage and QLogic networking, enabling Auto‑Tiering, thin provisioning, dual‑mirrored automated failover/failback and asynchronous replication to a DR site. The DataCore solution improved performance for I/O‑intensive apps (Exchange, SQL, Dynamics), eliminated upfront over‑provisioning, sped access to “hot” data, enabled seamless VM provisioning and maintenance with no user downtime, and delivered faster I/O diagnostics and assured availability—reclaiming control of Grundon’s storage layer and supporting continued growth.
