Drastically Reducing Time Spent on Routine Storage Tasks and Reducing Storage Costs

Hanover Hospital, a not-for-profit community hospital in Hanover, PA, faced rising storage demands — needing to increase capacity, resiliency and performance while cutting costs and simplifying management. To avoid lengthy SAN upgrades and expensive flash buys, the hospital chose DataCore and its SANsymphony software-defined storage to virtualize existing EMC and HP MSA arrays and quickly scale performance for VMs and applications.

DataCore implemented SANsymphony with synchronous mirroring, thin provisioning and DRAM caching to automate provisioning and unify multi-site storage. The results: 90% less CAPEX, 80–90% lower OPEX, provisioning time reduced from four hours to five minutes, ~60% effective overprovisioning, sustained ~1K IOPS from SATA drives and no downtime for four years — with roughly half the environment (140 of 266 VMs) now running on DataCore-powered storage.
