Dinwiddie County - Customer Case Study

Dinwiddie County Government in Virginia faced server sprawl and needed high availability for mission‑critical services (Emergency 911 Center, Sheriff’s Office) without buying major new hardware. To address this, Dinwiddie County Government deployed DataCore’s SANmelody storage virtualization software alongside VMware vSphere to consolidate servers and preserve uptime.

DataCore implemented a pair of SANmelody nodes mirrored synchronously over existing dark fiber between two campus sites, enabling VMware vSphere features like vMotion, fault‑tolerant failover, and reuse of existing equipment. The result: a fully virtualized environment managed by a three‑person IT team, physical servers reduced from six to two running twenty VMs, seamless failover during tests with no user impact, and significantly improved uptime and resource utilization thanks to DataCore.
