Der SPIEGEL Verlag - Customer Case Study

Der SPIEGEL Verlag, the Hamburg-based media company behind Europe’s highest-circulation news magazine, needed 24/7 high-performance access to a digital archive of millions of multimedia files and several hundred terabytes of data while replacing end-of-life storage hardware and providing flexible, fast provisioning for short-term projects. To meet these availability, performance and maintenance challenges, Der SPIEGEL Verlag chose DataCore Software and its SANsymphony V10 software-defined storage platform.

DataCore Software deployed SANsymphony V10 on Fujitsu PRIMERGY servers in a stretched-cluster configuration, integrating SanDisk Atomic PCIe flash as tier‑0 alongside external SSD, SAS and SATA tiers, and enabling synchronous mirroring, snapshots/CDP and multi-vendor auto‑tiering. The five-day installation with background data migration delivered measurable results: a five‑fold performance improvement, transparent auto-failover and resynchronisation, several-hundred‑TB scalable capacity, reduced latency and greater cost‑effective flexibility for Der SPIEGEL Verlag.
