Case Study: KBRwyle achieves 24x7x365 storage availability with DataCore Software

A DataCore Software Case Study

Preview of the KBRwyle Case Study

DataCore Stands the Test of Time

KBRwyle, a provider of engineering and technical services to the U.S. Department of Defense and NASA, faced recurrent storage failures and downtime that threatened development and test virtual environments. In 2008 KBRwyle began using DataCore’s software (SANsymphony™) to virtualize and consolidate storage, and after SAN disk failures in 2013 they turned to DataCore to achieve highly available mirrored storage across existing hardware.

DataCore implemented an active/active SANsymphony deployment that mirrors data across two storage systems, enables non-disruptive firmware updates and auto-tiering, and connects fibre-channel arrays to hosts via iSCSI to avoid costly cards. As a result, DataCore has delivered 24x7x365 availability with zero storage-related downtime since 2013, cut admin alert time to about 15 minutes per week, supported four hardware updates in five years with no downtime, reduced costs on storage expansion, and let KBRwyle maintain SLAs despite a 40% staff reduction.
