The City of Inverness inherited about thirteen servers and needed to consolidate onto VMware while adding a SAN for automated failover, scalability and disaster recovery. After evaluating several vendors, IT director Joey Johnston selected DataCore and its SANmelody product as a VMware‑compatible, scalable SAN solution that supported iSCSI/FC and automated high‑availability.

DataCore deployed SANmelody on repurposed Dell PowerEdge 2500 servers, delivering a 6 TB environment (two 3 TB SANmelody servers) with auto failover, AIM asynchronous IP mirroring, fast disk‑to‑disk backups and simplified provisioning. The City doubled effective storage utilization, consolidated multiple servers into virtual machines, and gained enterprise functionality at SMB cost — roughly $15,000 for two licenses and under $5,000 to populate six TB — significantly lower than traditional SAN hardware quotes.
