The City of Atascadero, California, faced rapid data growth, tight SLAs (a four‑hour RTO) and limited budget while relying on direct‑attached storage and physical servers. To support VMware virtualization and achieve high availability and disaster recovery, the city engaged DataCore and its storage virtualization software (SANmelody), with partner Helixstorm deploying a virtual SAN foundation.

Helixstorm implemented DataCore SANmelody as a highly available virtual SAN with synchronous mirroring and remote replication alongside VMware ESX, enabling thin provisioning and non‑disruptive storage expansion. As a result, DataCore’s solution lets the City of Atascadero run 22 virtual servers (with six physical hosts), meet the four‑hour RTO, bring 22 VMs online at the DR site in about 11 minutes, and realize cost savings, seamless scalability and improved reliability.
