American Society of Health System Pharmacists - Customer Case Study

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), a 35,000‑member professional and accrediting organization with a 210‑person staff, needed a more flexible, cost‑effective way to manage the large storage demands of publishing and member data. After using an IBM SAN and deploying VMware, ASHP turned to DataCore and a VMware partner to evaluate a software‑based storage virtualization approach to improve uptime, simplify SAN management, and reduce ongoing maintenance overhead.

DataCore implemented its storage virtualization software in a two‑node stretch‑cluster HA configuration (with plans for a third remote node), eliminating single points of failure and providing seamless I/O failover across two floors. The solution consolidated ASHP’s storage (about 60 TB), enabled a four‑fold growth of the VM farm over five years, simplified LUN management, and redirected capital away from large SAN arrays—delivering improved data resiliency, business continuity, and lower operational effort with DataCore at the heart of the environment.
