Azbil predicts LNG tank behavior across a 65-day voyage with Datacor

Azbil faced the challenge of managing LNG fuel tank pressure on a vessel, a complex issue where steady-state calculations were insufficient. Factors like heat transfer, engine load changes, and bunkering operations interacted in ways that required a dynamic solution. To address this, Azbil partnered with vendor Datacor and used their CHEMCAD service.

Datacor implemented a solution by developing a cloud-deployed digital twin of the LNG fuel tank and fuel gas supply system using CHEMCAD. This dynamic simulation was integrated with the vessel's navigation system to provide real-time predictions and operational guidance. The digital twin accurately predicted tank pressure and liquid volume across a 65-day voyage, allowing operators to evaluate pressure margins and fuel availability before and during navigation, which was proven at sea.
