Case Study: a leading copper mining company achieves $20M annual mine-to-mill optimization opportunity with DataCloud

A DataCloud Case Study

Preview of the Leading Copper Mining Company Case Study

DataCloud integrated geology and production data to identify an annual $20M opportunity at a copper mine

DataCloud worked with a leading copper mining company that was struggling with mill disruptions from SAG overload caused by highly variable material hardness. The site also had trouble linking mill performance back to in-situ rock, lacked adequate mill data access and reporting, and found it difficult to model and predict the coarse ore stockpile blend.

DataCloud implemented MinePortal and Power BI to integrate geology, production, fleet, crusher, and mill data, using machine learning to track material through the coarse ore stockpile and assess blend risk. The solution created a mine-to-mill feedback loop, improved blending decisions, and identified an annual $20 million opportunity, including an estimated 700,000 tons per year of additional copper recovery, $17.7 million in throughput revenue, $2 million in drill and blast savings, and $300,000 in data management savings.
