A DataCamp Case Study

Preview of the Gitgirl Case Study

How a Nigerian social venture for women integrated world-class education into their curriculum

Gitgirl is a Lagos-based data science academy for women founded in 2018 with a mission to train 13 million African women to become data-fluent. Facing heavy Lagos traffic, busy learners with full-time jobs, and a need for both foundational and advanced content, Gitgirl adopted an online-first model using instructor-led webinars, Slack for assignments, optional meetups, and integrated DataCamp’s curriculum and mobile learning to ensure flexible, world-class instruction.

DataCamp supported Gitgirl by embedding its up-to-date courses and mobile app into Gitgirl’s six-month program and donating 35 licenses, enabling self-paced learning for beginners and deeper tracks for advanced students. As a result, Gitgirl has trained over 150 women (as of November 2019) and moved 35 advanced learners beyond spreadsheets into Python and R data modeling and visualization—demonstrating measurable progress toward their data-fluency goals with DataCamp’s resources.
