SCAN Health Plan, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage health plans, needed a way to unify unstructured and structured data from EMRs, claims, and member engagement systems to better understand each member’s care journey. The organization turned to Databricks and its Data Intelligence Platform to support its lakehouse strategy and improve preventive healthcare insights while lowering operational costs.

Databricks helped SCAN build scalable data science and model pipelines that surface patterns in member experience, including NLP-driven insights to identify service issues and disenrollment risk. The results were measurable: early outreach to online-enrolled members reduced the chance of new-member churn by 3.6%, and targeted intervention for high-risk members decreased disenrollment by 4.59%, all while improving member satisfaction and retention.
