Securing growth through scalable and efficient data management at Cash App

Cash App, part of Block, needed a more scalable and cost-efficient way to manage growing Afterpay data after the acquisition, while reducing redundancies and improving access to reliable financial insights. The company wanted a flexible data infrastructure that could support BI, data science, and engineering teams, and it turned to Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, including Delta Lake.

Databricks helped Cash App migrate ETL and compute workloads from Redshift and EMR to Databricks, standardize data with a medallion architecture, and use Unity Catalog, AWS Glue, and Snowflake for interoperable access. The result was stronger pipeline stability, real-time processing, improved data quality and de-duplication, and lower operational risk and cost, with Delta Lake delivering reliability and scalability that surpassed the previous setup.
