Illimity, a digital banking provider for retail and corporate customers, needed to replace a rigid legacy data architecture built on disparate data warehouses and Synapse so it could launch a more flexible, data-driven banking platform on time. The bank partnered with Databricks and used the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform to support its modernization and real-time data ambitions.

Databricks implemented a lakehouse-based architecture with Databricks SQL, Unity Catalog, and Azure to create a single source of truth for analytics and secure partner sharing. As a result, Illimity can process data in real time, gain actionable insights, automate processes like loan processing, and reduce fraud risk; Databricks SQL also outperformed Synapse in query speed, and the managed solution helped the bank meet a less-than-a-year time-to-market goal while staying compliant with regulatory constraints.
