Navy Federal uses real-time data to trailblaze member personalization

Navy Federal Credit Union, the world’s largest credit union, wanted to deliver a more personalized omnichannel experience for its 13 million member-owners, but its online banking telemetry data was difficult to ingest and analyze in real time. The team needed access to member attribute data and faster insight from event telemetry, so it turned to Databricks along with Spark Declarative Pipelines, Databricks SQL, and Microsoft Power BI.

Using Databricks, Navy Federal built a low-code streaming pipeline that ingested telemetry from Azure Event Hubs, cleaned and deduplicated events, applied data-quality checks, and served the data into Power BI for real-time dashboards. The solution scaled automatically from a few hundred users to millions, ran continuously for nine months, and processed about 9 billion application events with almost-zero maintenance, while also improving performance and delivering the latest updates to analysts and users in real time.
