Kraken sparks energy industry innovation with Databricks

Kraken, the advanced operating platform for energy utilities and part of the Octopus Energy Group, needed a way to manage explosive global growth as its data volumes surged across 17 countries. Its siloed legacy data infrastructure was slowing expansion and making it harder to support customers and new operations, so Kraken turned to Databricks and Delta Sharing for a flexible, open, and secure data platform.

With Databricks, Kraken centralized data processing, scaled from a 15-person data team to more than 700 employees working with data, and enabled new offices to run independently with less support. The move cut weather-data processing costs by 8x and reduced a data reload task from three days to eight hours. Kraken is now beginning to expand its use of Delta Sharing to create and share more reports with clients, while Databricks continues to support secure, efficient global operations.
