A Databricks Case Study
Powys Teaching Health Board (PTHB), which serves the largest county in Wales, struggled to make patient-centric decisions because about half of the data it needed came from neighboring organizations in inconsistent formats. This made it difficult to unify patient activity and workforce data, slowing access for nontechnical teams and limiting the quality of care insights. PTHB turned to Databricks and its Data Intelligence Platform to break down these silos and create a more complete view of its data.
With Databricks, PTHB moved to the cloud in under a year and built a federated lakehouse that connects its on-premises SQL warehouse and NHS Wales BigQuery environment into a single source of truth. The result was an estimated 40% time savings in building analytics pipelines and 65% less time spent answering questions from business users with Databricks Assistant, while also accelerating staff training and enabling new predictive use cases such as forecasting feature utilization.
