Delivering sky-high experiences for global travelers

Virgin Australia wanted to become the most-loved airline while overcoming siloed data, inconsistent information, and a constrained legacy on-premises data warehouse. Using Databricks, specifically the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, the airline aimed to unify data access for its 19 million-plus customers and 12 million Velocity Frequent Flyer members and improve collaboration across teams.

Databricks implemented Delta Lake, MLflow, and Unity Catalog to modernize Virgin Australia’s data and AI foundation with secure, governed access and a medallion architecture. The result was a 75% increase in real-time data availability and a 44% reduction in mishandled bags, while also improving machine learning lifecycle management, reporting, and productivity across the business.
