Hive - Customer Case Study

Hive, from Centrica Connected Home, is one of the UK’s largest smart home providers, with hundreds of thousands of connected-home customers. As Hive aimed to become a nationwide smart home platform, it needed a robust, scalable, and flexible cloud foundation that could support millions of households, multiple device integrations, partner connectivity, rich analytics, and white-label capabilities. DataArt worked with Hive to help meet these requirements across the cloud platform, web APIs, and mobile interfaces.

DataArt implemented the solution as a cloud-based microservices platform on Amazon AWS, using RabbitMQ, Kafka, Hazelcast, Cassandra, MySQL, and ELK for messaging, storage, caching, analytics, and monitoring. The architecture enabled secure device communication, continuous delivery, blue-green deployments with zero downtime, and easier scaling as demand grew. As a result, Hive gained a more flexible platform with better operational transparency, improved user experience, stronger monitoring, and a foundation to support its growth in the fast-expanding smart home market.
