A Data Networks Case Study
Maryland’s Health Departments, a large county health agency within the Maryland State Department, needed to refresh its aging data center infrastructure. Its servers, storage, and switches were nearing end of support, the existing servers couldn’t support current versions of key applications, the rack had limited space, and the agency needed a solution that would avoid major process changes or disruption. Data Networks was brought in to help modernize the environment while protecting existing investments, including VMware-based systems and backup infrastructure.
Data Networks replaced the end-of-life Dell PowerEdge R720 hosts with Dell PowerEdge R640 servers running the latest VMware vSphere Hypervisor, upgraded networking to 10GbE Dell EMC S4112F switches, and swapped the spindle-based VNX 5200 SAN for a Dell EMC Unity 350F all-flash array. It also updated the Veeam Backup Essentials environment with minimal changes. The result was a fully virtualized, higher-performance environment with better compute, storage, network, backup, and recovery capabilities, and the migration was completed all at once with no downtime or service disruption.
