A Data Networks Case Study
East Coast University, a large university with more than 41,000 students, was running an aging and partially physical IT environment that was difficult to manage, costly to power and maintain, and lacked strong business continuity. Its single on-campus data center had old servers nearing end of support and insufficient disaster recovery protection. Data Networks stepped in to modernize the environment with a more scalable approach.
Data Networks implemented two identical software-defined data centers using Dell and VMware technologies, including VMware NSX Data Center and vSAN on Dell PowerEdge servers, connected as an active/active stretch cluster across campus and a collocated site. The result was a 42% five-year CAPEX savings, a 35% reduction in power/cooling/floor space costs, a 62% reduction in server count, a 40% increase in CPU performance, and a projected 68% cut in data center power demand over five years.
