Data Migration from Non-trusted Storage to Azure Cloud Storage

The customer, a leading digital payment solutions and services provider, faced a significant challenge following an acquisition. They needed to migrate millions of files from an unknown and untrusted storage infrastructure in the acquired company’s domain to their own Azure cloud. The complexities included ensuring data privacy during the transfer and the need to accurately migrate and translate access control lists (ACLs) for users moving to a new domain. They could not find a software solution that guaranteed this level of security and functionality until they engaged Data Dynamics.

Data Dynamics implemented its StorageX Migrations solution to address these challenges. StorageX successfully migrated the data from the untrusted source to Azure, with its ability to operate across domains being a key factor. A critical feature was its inline SID translation, which preserved ACLs by mapping old user security identifiers to the new ones in the target domain. This ensured a quick, secure migration and enabled a smooth transition of business processes from the acquired company to the new holding company.
