East Midlands Electricity (EME) needed to free up space and improve access to a huge archive of around 100,000 infrastructure drawings, many of them in old microfilm and large-format paper, spread across 60 cabinets and tanks. Files were hard to locate across multiple offices and misfiling caused delays, so the company turned to Data Capture Solutions for specialised drawing/microfilm scanning and electronic document storage.

Data Capture Solutions scanned, indexed, and saved more than 70,000 drawings and negatives on site over a 9-month project, using greyscale scanning for poor-quality microfilm and creating smaller black-and-white working copies. The project was completed on time and to budget, giving EME fast PC-based access to drawings within seconds, eliminating misfiling concerns, improving document control, and reducing storage risk from fire or flood.
