VTT Technical Research Centre - Customer Case Study

VTT Technical Research Centre faced the challenge of delivering innovative, cost‑effective design and manufacturability solutions for complex projects—from ITER fusion‑reactor maintenance robots to satellite assembly and rock‑crusher maintenance—while minimizing costly physical prototyping. To meet this need, VTT adopted the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform from Dassault Systemes, using applications such as CATIA, DELMIA and 3DVIA to create virtual environments and functional simulations.

Using Dassault Systemes’ 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, VTT shifted testing earlier into virtual models to validate designs, control software and human‑machine interactions before building hardware. The approach reduced physical prototypes, enabled right‑first‑time designs, improved ergonomics and manufacturability, helped detect problematic parts early (saving time and cost), and even avoided a potential $1 million satellite failure through virtual assembly validation.
