A Dassault Systemes Case Study
Thales Alenia Space Italia faced the complex challenge of designing and verifying hypersonic reentry vehicles that require coupling many physics disciplines, more than 25 flight-condition parameters, and vast data sets that cannot be fully tested in hardware. To address this, Thales Alenia Space Italia adopted Dassault Systemes’ Isight environment and the SIMULIA Execution Engine to integrate disparate commercial and proprietary codes into unified simulation workflows.
Using Dassault Systemes’ Isight and SIMULIA Execution Engine, the team automated multi-step optimization and verification flows (including adaptive simulated annealing and Monte Carlo GNC runs), ran 200 optimization iterations in a day, evaluated 1,000 sample trajectories and 300,000 time histories, and cut a traditional two-week process to about 48 hours. The new Dassault Systemes-driven workflow reduced manual errors, removed conservative design assumptions, improved cross-discipline collaboration, and is estimated to cut man-hours for new simulation iterations by about 80%.
