Scalextric®/SCX® manufacturer reduces development time with DS PLM

Tecnitoys, the Spanish maker of Scalextric®/SCX® miniature electric racing cars (about 80% market share in Spain), faced the twin challenges of reproducing full‑size vehicles accurately in miniature and improving access to and management of design data. To address this, Tecnitoys adopted CATIA and ENOVIA SmarTeam from Dassault Systemes for 3D design and product data management.

Dassault Systemes’ CATIA gave Tecnitoys the advanced surfacing needed to scale and adapt original manufacturers’ 3D models (Scalextric cars are 32× smaller than the originals), reducing mold/master production time by generating masters directly, while ENOVIA SmarTeam (in use since 2008) centralized PDM, version and change control so designers always access the correct, up‑to‑date data—streamlining the engineering office and shortening development cycles.
