Reduces manufacturing engineering time 50% with DS PLM Solution for Composites

GKN Aerospace, a Tier 1 supplier of complex composite and metal aircraft parts, faced time-consuming shop-floor troubleshooting and error-prone data translations in its composite lay-up process. To eliminate rework and improve collaboration, GKN Aerospace adopted Dassault Systemes PLM solutions—including CATIA Composites Design (CPD), ENOVIA, DELMIA and 3DVIA—integrated with partner tools for producibility simulation and shop-floor integration.

Dassault Systemes implemented an end-to-end design-to-fabrication solution using CATIA for ply definition and simulation (with Simulayt AFM for complex shapes), ENOVIA for data management, DELMIA and 3DVIA for manufacturing instructions and visualization, plus Intercim and Magestic Systems for MES and nesting/laser projection. The integrated DS PLM process cut manufacturing engineering time by about 50% (to ~4 hours per part), reduced unexpected producibility issues on the shop floor, and greatly improved collaboration across the extended enterprise.
