A Dassault Systemes Case Study
Ottobock, a medical technology company focused on prosthetics and mobility solutions, needed to make its prosthetic designs look and move as naturally as possible, but its existing CAD system could not model the complex freeform surfaces required. To address this, Ottobock turned to Dassault Systemes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform and the CATIA Imagine & Shape surfacing application (deployed with partner EBM and specialist training) to enable more natural, anatomically accurate exterior designs.
Using Dassault Systemes’ CATIA Imagine & Shape, Ottobock’s designers gained stable, directly manipulable surfaces with clean curve continuity, allowing faster and more precise modeling of the Michelangelo hand shell while preserving internal mechatronic performance. The new workflow was quickly adopted and cut modeling time dramatically—from roughly two months to just three weeks—establishing the Dassault Systemes solution as Ottobock’s strategic tool for form-critical products.
