Lighten up! Amcor Uses Realistic Simulation to Stay on Top in Plastic Container Market

Amcor’s Rigid Plastics Division faced intense CPG market pressure to deliver more innovative PET containers faster, lighter and at lower cost while meeting strict performance and regulatory requirements. To tighten design cycles and enable virtual testing, Amcor adopted Product Lifecycle Management solutions from Dassault Systemes, notably Abaqus Unified FEA for realistic physics-based simulation alongside CATIA for 3D modeling and ENOVIA for collaborative data management.

Using Dassault Systemes’ tools, Amcor integrated CATIA models with Abaqus simulations and ENOVIA-managed data to iterate designs rapidly, cut physical prototyping and improve cross-team communication. The results included a roughly 50% reduction in design cycle time (down to about nine months), dramatic lightweighting (one example reduced a 63 g design to 43 g), fewer design revisions, faster customer responses and far lower material and development costs—savings that scale to millions of units per year.
