Improving productivity and reducing costs with 3DVIA Virtools

Hyundai Rotem, a global leader in railroad and defense manufacturing, faced slow and costly review workflows because its engineers had to work with very large 3D plant and equipment design files that hindered interference checking and decision making. To address this problem, Hyundai Rotem adopted Dassault Systemes' 3DVIA Virtools to enable lightweight, interactive 3D model review and simulation.

Dassault Systemes implemented 3DVIA Virtools and the 3DXML format to drastically reduce data volumes (for example, a 1 GB seat-assembly dataset was reduced to 10 MB and CATIA facility data can shrink by up to 100×), allowing interference checks, facility layout and material-flow optimization on low-cost hardware. The deployment delivered faster data access and review times, improved productivity, eliminated the need for expensive workstations, and set the stage for integrating Virtools with Hyundai Rotem’s material-flow simulation tools.
