A Dassault Systemes Case Study
Ceres Power, a UK-based leader in fuel cell technology, needed to develop a highly efficient, cost‑effective domestic combined heat and power (CHP) unit as an attractive alternative to centralized generation. To tackle this challenge, Ceres Power used Dassault Systemes’ Dymola (part of CATIA) and Abaqus FEA (from SIMULIA) to model system performance, thermal and structural behavior, and control systems early in development.
Using Dassault Systemes’ simulation tools, Ceres Power evaluated design options and performed co‑simulation for controls without building physical prototypes, allowing them to introduce faults, optimize component specifications, and produce accurate supplier targets. The approach reduced risk and the number of prototypes needed—saving thousands of development hours—accelerated innovation, and provided clear technical and commercial insights into cost/performance tradeoffs.
