Groupama Team France, an 85-person French sailing team preparing for the 2017 America’s Cup, faced the challenge of designing, building and testing a new 50-foot foiling catamaran on a very tight schedule and under restrictive one-design rules, with only a single prototype and roughly 18 months to complete work many rivals took years to do. To meet these constraints the team adopted Dassault Systemes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform and the Designed For Sea industry solution for virtual design, simulation and collaborative development.

Using Dassault Systemes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform, Groupama Team France integrated 3D modelling, composites layup, finite-element analysis, fluid simulations and partner collaboration in one environment, enabling rapid iteration and fewer file-exchange errors. The result was accelerated development, improved cross-team and supplier communication, and precise, error-free digital models that translated into a first-time-fit assembly of the boat and higher-quality designs — delivering measurable time savings, reduced rework and stronger collaboration across the project.
