Case Study: Ford Motor Company achieves 70‑day to 4‑day analysis turnaround with Dassault Systemes (Abaqus for CATIA & Isight)

A Dassault Systemes Case Study

Ford Motor Company - Customer Case Study

Ford Motor Company needed a robust cantilevered conical joint design for a rear suspension application while minimizing cost and time to meet functional targets. To accomplish this, Ford used Dassault Systemes tools—Abaqus for CATIA (AFC) for structural analysis and Isight for process automation and optimization—to drive the design and analysis work.

Using Dassault Systemes’ AFC and Isight, Ford built an automated, closed-loop Design of Experiments that updated CAD and FEA in the same loop, ran on an HPC cluster, and used a response-surface approximation to optimize the joint. The automation completed 35 analysis runs in about 3.5 hours and enabled the team to finish the overall task in roughly four days instead of an estimated 70, delivering a robust conical joint with good contact area and retained clamp load within manufacturing tolerances while saving significant development time.
