Case Study: Delfoi achieves fast, automated off-line robot programming for shipbuilding with Dassault Systemes (DELMIA IGRIP)

Delfoi - Customer Case Study

Delfoi, a long-time DELMIA reseller and development partner, confronted the shipbuilding challenge of programming massive arc-welding robots for complex 3D blocks where single structures can contain hundreds of meters of weld and gantry robots travel hundreds of meters. Manual on-line teaching was prohibitively slow, so Delfoi turned to Dassault Systemes’ DELMIA IGRIP platform to deliver an off-line programming (OLP) solution tailored to ship-structure welding.

Using the DELMIA IGRIP Shipbuilding Application, Delfoi (in collaboration with Pemamek) implemented a model-based OLP workflow that automates seam creation, collision checking and recovery, calibration and program download—producing a ready-to-run robot program for a 14m x 20m block in minutes instead of days. The Dassault Systemes DELMIA-based solution boosted start-up speed and robot utilization, provides process reports (PB/PF weld lengths, arc-on times, estimated runtimes), and Delfoi has delivered more than 60 IGRIP arc-welding applications to over 50 companies.
