A Dassault Systemes Case Study
Philips Lumec, a Montreal-based outdoor lighting manufacturer, needed an online platform to let business partners and customers easily configure lighting fixtures that were functional, manufacturable and visually appropriate for installation sites. Facing heavy volumes of 2D presentation-drawing requests and an internal configurator available only to staff, Philips Lumec chose 3DVIA from Dassault Systemes to provide an interactive, Web-based solution.
Dassault Systemes implemented 3DVIA to create Lumec 3D, an online configurator that integrates SolidWorks models and ERP data so users can assemble, visualize, place and order fixtures while the system blocks non-feasible configurations. The results: requests for presentation drawings on standard products fell by 96% (from more than 70 a month to fewer than three), complex-configuration requests dropped nearly 50%, Lumec signed up 1,100 registered users and drew over 4,000 visitors in the first year—streamlining ordering and freeing engineers for higher-value work.
