Case Study: Tesla Motors achieves faster, lower-cost electric vehicle development with Dassault Systèmes' V6 PLM

A Dassault Systemes Case Study

Changing the automotive paradigm through advanced engineering with Version 6

Tesla Motors, an automotive start-up reinventing electric vehicles, faced the challenge of engineering a production-ready electric car from the ground up while scaling from the Roadster to the higher-volume Model S. Collaborative design, eliminating file-translation errors and keeping program development disciplined were critical needs, so Tesla turned to Dassault Systemes’ solutions, standardizing on ENOVIA Version 6 (V6) PLM alongside CATIA, DELMIA and related DS tools.

Dassault Systemes implemented an integrated V6-based PLM platform that unified 3D data, removed data boundaries and opened collaboration to suppliers and stakeholders using tools like 3DLIVE and 3DVIA. The solution eliminated time-consuming format translations, compressed lead times, lowered costs and enabled earlier manufacturing feedback—improving manufacturability and helping Tesla scale for Model S—with quicker implementation and lower total cost of ownership under the Dassault Systemes platform.
