A Dassault Systemes Case Study
Amcor, a global packaging leader producing more than 20 billion containers annually, needed to reduce material use in beverage containers while preserving strength, aesthetics and manufacturability. To meet this challenge Amcor adopted SIMULIA’s Abaqus finite element simulation (from Dassault Systemes) to identify strain areas and failure points early in the design process.
Using Dassault Systemes’ SIMULIA Abaqus and related tools, Amcor moved many design iterations to the virtual stage, cutting prototyping time and risk and accelerating innovation. The results are measurable: over 100 million pounds less PET used annually, typical hot-fill bottle weights down 35–50%, PowerStrap base designs delivering 20–30% weight savings, a 30% weight reduction on a hot-fill sports drink bottle after ~60 iterations, and concept-to-market time reduced to under three years versus six–eight previously.
