Agnico Eagle’s Meadowbank operation in Nunavut needed to better integrate mine design, production scheduling and geological modeling to boost in-house capability and protect profitability. To solve this, Agnico Eagle engaged Dassault Systemes and its GEOVIA suite to replace a struggling competitive solution and provide tools and services for life-of-mine estimation, pit optimization, ore control and production scheduling.

Dassault Systemes implemented GEOVIA GEMS SQL, GEOVIA MineSched and GEOVIA Whittle with onsite GEOVIA Services training, centralizing data and enabling rapid scenario analysis. The new workflow cut evaluation time from weeks to days (or minutes), improved ore control and pit designs, increased 2013 gold output by 70,000 ounces, improved reserve grades by 16%, raised dump capacity by 1.7 million tonnes, eliminated four contractor trucks and delivered roughly $1.4 million in life-of-mine savings.
