ABBALab, a Tokyo-based seed accelerator that supports IoT and hardware startups, needed a way for fellows and portfolio companies to access sophisticated CAD tools under license anywhere, anytime without forcing them to invest in costly software and hardware. To solve this, ABBALab adopted Dassault Systemes’ cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform (alongside CATIA) to give startups on-demand access to professional design tools and data.

By using Dassault Systemes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the cloud, ABBALab delivered a database-driven, real-time single source of design truth that enables remote co-creation and collaboration. Startups such as exiii used CATIA and the cloud platform to develop open-source prosthetic designs that have been downloaded and reused by users in Colorado, Poland and beyond; the platform lowered entry costs, accelerated collaboration, and helped ABBALab expand its support program and onboard more hardware startups.
