A Dassault Systemes Case Study
ABB Turbo Systems Ltd. (ABB) needed to modernize its product development by moving from primarily 2D drawings to a fully integrated 3D design process to manage thousands of linked parts, eliminate geometric redundancy, and shorten lengthy design cycles. To do this it worked with Dassault Systemes (using CATIA, ENOVIA SmarTeam and 3DVIA Composer) alongside IBM to improve change management and PDM practices.
Dassault Systemes’ PLM tools and processes (CATIA, ENOVIA SmarTeam and 3DVIA Composer), implemented with IBM, enabled redundancy‑free geometric modeling and linked object management so updates propagate through assemblies. The impact: ABB slashed part design cycles from weeks to days (for some parts doing ten design cycles in two weeks versus one cycle taking three–four weeks before), while improving modeling quality and reducing costs.
