Consultation Management for the Mega Metro Tunnel

The Metro Tunnel is a $9.0 billion city‑shaping rail project that required extensive, ongoing stakeholder and community consultation through planning and into construction. Facing complex engineering, constructability and community‑relations challenges, the project (delivered by the Melbourne Metro Rail Authority) needed a single system to capture interactions across multiple channels and manage large volumes of feedback. Darzin Software was engaged in late 2015 to provide the Darzin Consultation Manager to support and centralise that engagement effort.

Darzin Software’s Darzin Consultation Manager captured and collated interactions from drop‑in sessions, meetings, online portals and other channels to track issues, trends and enquiries, and to provide consistent data management and reporting for MMRA and its contractors. The tool supported engagement outcomes that included 19 community sessions (1,500+ attendees), 180 meetings, 50 presentations, 8,100 portal visits, two newsletters to over 200,000 properties and more than 1,200 enquiries, and helped inform major design changes such as relocating Parkville Station to reduce local impacts.
