Community Engagement in an Award Winning Alliance Project

Auckland’s Clear Harbour Alliance, a Metrowater and Auckland City Council–backed sewer separation program in Kingsland and Eden Terrace, faced the challenge of installing a new wastewater reticulation to nearly 1,000 private properties while minimising disruption and reducing polluted overflows into the Waitemata Harbour. To manage stakeholder communications and community engagement across more than 6,000 directly impacted people, the Alliance used Darzin Software’s Darzin stakeholder engagement tool as its central communication platform.

Using Darzin Software’s engagement tool, the Alliance delivered improved internal and external communications that helped the physical works finish under budget and six months ahead of schedule, while achieving safety, environmental and customer-care targets. Measured outcomes included average customer satisfaction scores above 8/10 across four areas, delivery of about 5% more work than originally scoped at lower cost, reduced wet‑weather wastewater overflows and external recognition such as a NZ Planning Institute Best Practice Award and a Highly Commended Team of Excellence — all credited in part to Darzin Software’s role in the engagement program.
