mypensionID partnered with Daon to tackle a major pensions-industry challenge: keeping member data accurate and compliant while reducing costly overpayments to deceased pensioners. With GDPR requirements and The Pensions Regulator’s rules increasing the need for verified, up-to-date records, the company needed a secure, easy way to maintain ongoing contact with pension scheme members. Daon’s IdentityX platform was used to provide the biometric identity layer for the mypensionID mobile app.
Daon helped power an app that lets members verify their identity with a selfie, a government-issued ID, and liveness checking, then update personal details, confirm they are alive, and view multiple pensions in one place. The solution has been piloted by one of the UK’s largest pension schemes, with two additional schemes also testing it, and it is helping create a two-way digital communication channel that improves engagement and supports compliance. While exact financial figures were not provided, the case study says the approach could enable significant savings by reducing unnecessary pension payments and may eventually support more frequent liveness checks.
