Maubeuge cuts energy bills by 15% with Dalkia

The city of Maubeuge faced the challenge of reducing fossil fuel use and CO2 emissions while simultaneously combating energy poverty for its residents. To address this, the municipality partnered with vendor Dalkia to develop a sustainable and efficient district heating solution.

Dalkia's solution involved recovering waste heat from an existing waste-to-energy center to supply a new district heating network. This was supplemented by a 20 MW gas-fired boiler and a 13 km distribution network. The project, managed by Dalkia under a public service delegation, delivers 48.8 GWh annually to approximately 5,000 homes. The results include a 15% average reduction in subscriber energy bills, 10,100 tons of avoided CO2 emissions per year, and 83% of the network's supply coming from renewable and recovered energy sources.
