Holland America Tracks EHS Compliance from Port to Port

Holland America Line, a Seattle-based cruise operator with 14 ships and visits to some 280 ports worldwide, faced a complex compliance challenge: navigating constantly changing international, flag-state and port regulations while managing rotating shipboard officers who must quickly understand a vessel’s safety and environmental obligations. Ensuring consistent EHS compliance across a globally moving fleet was critical to maintaining safety, customer trust and profitability.

To solve this, Holland America implemented Dakota Software’s ProActivity SaaS as part of its Safety Management System. ProActivity provides real-time, filtered views of inspection items by vessel and regulatory group, assigns responsibilities and tracks due dates, creating a running compliance history. The result: officers can immediately see outstanding corrections and responsibilities, the company improved planning and efficiency across roughly 500 sea-going officers, and compliance visibility and accountability were substantially enhanced.
