Dakota deploys patient wristbands fully compliant with GS1 Standards

The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK, sought a cost-effective and fully GS1-compliant patient wristband solution to improve safety and meet national standards. The trust engaged vendor Dakota Integrated Solutions to replace its aging hardware and implement a new system, aiming to move away from handwritten bands and achieve compliance it had been struggling with for months.

Dakota Integrated Solutions deployed a solution utilizing Zebra HC100 wristband printers and Z-Band UltraSoft consumables, integrated with the trust's patient administration system. This provided a fully GS1-compliant format with a scannable 2D barcode. The implementation delivered substantial cost savings on both the hardware refresh and ongoing consumables, enhanced patient comfort with a superior wristband, and required minimal internal IT resources.
