A Daisy Group Case Study
Dumfries & Galloway College faced an ageing, inflexible IT estate that was struggling to support students and staff—poor availability and email performance, slow manual application deployments, and a need to host a Shared Learning Environment for neighbouring institutions as the college moved to a new campus. The College engaged Daisy to address these challenges, drawing on a virtualised server estate using HP, Microsoft and VMware technologies and Microsoft Application Virtualisation for desktop delivery.
Daisy designed and deployed a new data centre, migrating servers and applications, implementing server and storage virtualisation, Microsoft Exchange integrated with third‑party Unified Communications, Active Directory and centralised desktop management plus staff training. The result was significantly improved systems availability and performance (notably email), radical reductions in application deployment time, lower ongoing IT support costs, reduced data‑centre resource/space/power and a flexible Shared Learning Environment — delivering measurable efficiency, productivity and environmental gains.
