A Daisy Group Case Study
The University of Greenwich was facing rapidly rising demand for IT capacity, a growing and heterogeneous server estate with low utilisation, limited storage, and an ageing, hard‑to‑manage backup regime across three campuses. To address these challenges the University engaged Daisy Group, which proposed server consolidation and virtualisation (VMware) together with HP Blade servers, HP Storage Area Networks and HP Data Protector backup services.
Daisy Group designed and implemented an integrated infrastructure—clusters of HP Blades, three SANs in a triangular, replicated configuration, HP Data Protector and a virtual tape library—standardised across all sites. The result was a high‑availability platform (the SAN has delivered 100% availability since implementation), faster disk‑based backups that can run during the working day without impacting performance, fewer physical servers, lower power/heat and simplified management—delivering improved service for staff and students and reduced operating costs under Daisy Group’s management.
