VHS Learning - Customer Case Study

VHS Learning, a nonprofit provider of online middle- and high-school courses, wanted to expand its catalog with American Sign Language while ensuring the experience worked for students and teachers across different time zones. The challenge was delivering a visual, interactive course that supported asynchronous learning, video-based communication, and efficient grading. VHS Learning used D2L Brightspace for its online courses and turned to D2L Brightspace for help in building the new ASL offering.

D2L Brightspace helped VHS Learning implement Video Notes for students and teachers to record, embed, and upload signing videos directly in the course, along with Rubrics to speed up and standardize assessment. The result was a more seamless, accessible learning experience that supported inclusivity and deaf culture discussions, while reducing grading workload and improving consistency. The first ASL course filled all five classes within a month of launch, showing strong demand and measurable success for D2L Brightspace and VHS Learning.
